A bit about Friends of Richmond Park Sheffield
The Friends of Richmond park was first formed as community group in late 2006 with the aim of protecting and if possible to improve the under utilized green space that is Sheffield Richmond park.
The community group worked closely with Sheffield City Councils Parks and countryside department and developed an ambitious Master plan that if successful would make the Park a cornerstone of community life.
In 2009, the Friends of Richmond Park, started hosting community events and activities for the surrounding communities these include events such as the annual Community fun day , football training for the under sixteen’s with Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Coaching teams, activities with the rangers service and Activity Sheffield and adult learning events.
In 2011 after 2 highly successful years which included the installation of the BMX Track, Zip Wire, climbing Boulder, Football Pitch , Play Markings step by step regeneration of a community use room in the pavilion and regenerate the tennis courts into a Multi Use Games Area. It was decided by unanimous vote that the group could maximise its efforts to improve both the park and the lives of the local community by becoming a registered charity.
In 2012 we provided a wide range of activities and events including the well supported music festival LInkfest 2012 in association with other local groups this allowed the group to showcase its work to over 2,5000 people over the day aswell as givng opportunities to some fantastic acts
The installation of the much requested pre-teen play ground equipment started and continued throughout 2013 with swings, slide and a climbing frame making a return to the park, the group also undertook a major effort to improve the visual impact of the park.
